TomTom GO 740 Live Screen Replacement

I just received a replacement screen to fit the GO 740 and could use some help for proper disassembly of the unit. I received a special leverage tool but no instructions. I do not wish to do more damage, I find the broken screen enough of a challenge. Does anyone have a link to a pictutorial dissassembly manual or instructions for this or similiar unit?

Sorry, TranquilEd, I responded to your introduction message before reading this one. Good job posting your question in the correct sub-forum! I found a TomTom 910 disassembly guide on TomTom Forums. It might give you some ideas....

Thanks, HumVee. I also found on the same site 540, 740, 940, 550, 750, 950 Battery Change - TomTomForums.com - TomTom & GPS Navigation Community some help also. Thanks for the lead Watson, I think we got it. I'll keep you posted as I progress.

Re: TomTom GO 740 Live Screen Replacement

I'd appreciate some advise - I brought a TomTom GO 740 GO LIVE GPS last christmas for my husband and managed to break the screen within a couple of weeks. TomTom Inc. didn't offer any replacement screens so I'm hoping someone can tell me where I can get one. I, of course, bought another one since it was a gift. Thanks in advance for the help

Re: TomTom GO 740 Live Screen Replacement

I purchased a replacement a new touch screen digitizer from Hong Kong <elecrealm@gmail.com> and did the soldering myself. The unit works fine and like you I now have two units. With TomTom that means I'm paying for two map updates at this point.

Re: TomTom GO 740 Live Screen Replacement

Ask for solder instructions prior to purchase of screen recommended.

Re: TomTom GO 740 Live Screen Replacement

I just took apart my 930 because the digitizer got cracked. I found places to purchase the digitizer but I can't figure out how to remove the old one.

It looks like it is glued onto the frame of the screen. Also the replacement company says you have to know how to solder and I do but I don't see where the solder points are. Is it on the plastic circuit board under the green clear tape where the four lines come in from the digitizer? Won't the plastic melt if you apply a gun to it? Any tips are appreciated.
