sd card for a xl-s

Recently purchased the xl-s because of the price, just wanted to know, can you use an sd card for added information for the tom Tom?. I also have the 510 and use a 2gb card with loads of info from the home site. Any information on this problem will be greatly appreciated.

Re: sd card for a xl-s

scitron, I tried to look at the TomTom One XLs owner's manual, but the TomTom site is currently down. However, I'm also not entirely clear on your question....do you have the GPS unit in hand, and can't find a memory card slot on it?

Re: sd card for a xl-s

The TomTom website finally came back up, and I was able to look through the One XL-s User's Guide. On page 2, the illustration shows that there is an SD card slot on the bottom of the unit.

Re: sd card for a xl-s

The xl-s comes with 32mg of internal memory. I would like to add the sd card for more options such as different voices and maps into it. I've tried to add it in the slot but a large red X flashes and i have toremove it. I copied all the info from the tom Tom home site onto the sd card..

Re: sd card for a xl-s

Have you contacted TomTom Support? If the SD card worked in your old unit, it should work fine in your new unit. It apparently works fine when used with a computer, since you mention that you copied data onto it - so there's nothing physically wrong with the SD card....

When you say loads of info from the home site...perhaps some of those enhancements are specific to your TomTom Go 510, and when the One XL-S tries to load them it goes into an error state. The support folks should be able to help you isolate the offending file(s). If not, you can try trial and error - start with a blank SD card and see if the One XL-S freaks out. If it sees the card and all is fine, then try adding one file at a time and loading it into the GPS unit to observe the behavior. If you encounter a file that causes the error state, then delete it and try the next file, etc....
