| How to "mark " a location ??
Is it possible to "mark" a location so I can find my way back to it? For example, before beginning a hike, can I mark my entry point (ie, trailhead) into the wilderness and when ready to return to the trailhead, I let the GPS find my way back to the starting point?

Hello, jstroud99. The response to your question depends on what make and model GPS unit you are using! Different GPS units have different abilities, and generally speaking, the more expensive they are, the more fully featured they are. Since you're posting in TomTom GPS, I assume you have a TomTom? Which model?

Well, according to the manual for your TomTom One XLS, you can create a Favorite called 'My Location.' It's mentioned on page 20 of the manual. That seems to be the feature you're looking for. If you want to later delete it, you go into the 'Manage Favorites' menu - but I think you can just leave it and overwrite it with your next 'My Location' you save.... Does that answer your question?

Thanks for the great advice! Sure looks like using Favorites combined with "position of last stop" will probably work for what I need. I'll try it tomorrow and let you know.

Tested today and works great! Only concern now is how long will the battery last? Maybe if I turn the unit off after setting the entry spot and then not turn it on again until I need it to track back to the original location, it will suffice. Thanks again for putting me on the right path!! Jstroud99 |

What are you unhappy with, mark1230? Or to put it another way, what would you look for in your next GPS unit?
