Swixit, that mdsbattery animated GIF seems pretty comprehensive and straight-forward to me...are you not able to see all 6 of the steps? If you're having browser problems, I'd be happy to convert the datasheet to a PDF document for you. Granted, the pictures aren't very big - but isn't that the 1.8" hard drive in the bottom left of the pictures? It's my understanding that these TomTom Go's use a Hitachi Microdrive, and that looks to be about the right form-factor in the pictures. If that's the case, you don't remove the hard drive at all - but instead very carefully detach the entire PCB circuit board after removing the six #6 Torx screws.... Maybe you can post a picture of how far you've gotten, so we can see exactly where you're stuck? |

| Re: Replace new battery in tom tom go 910 (with hard disc) Swixit, it looks like you haven't entirely removed the internals from the housing. You've only removed the front bezel and LCD display. The various instructions I've been able to find all talk about removing the entire unit from the housing. There are 4 Torx screws on the bottom of the unit, hidden by little rubber nubs - once you remove them you should be able to get the internals to slide out of the housing. I lucked out and found a nicley prepared PDF document with pretty good descriptions on how to disassemble a TomTom Go 910. See attached. You certainly don't need to completely disassemble your unit, but these instructions should help with finding the locations of the screws, etc. to get to your battery. Zarimar & skinny420 over at TomTom Forums should be thanked for creating and sharing this. I hope it helps! |

The battery replacement was straight forward, enough so I let my 12 year old take on the task. I found several sites that carried the battery, GPSFORLESS shipped it to me the following day and it came with the torx tool. Thanks for the info.

I have replaced the battery ok, but I seem to have lost the backlight for the screen. Anybody any ideas? The (male) connector for the speaker also disintegrated, so I have lost that connection. I probably can solder that back on if need be, but I would want to know whether I can get the backlight back before I fiddle any more... By the way, overall the instructions downloaded from here were brilliant and the battery is charging and powering up fine. I suspect I deserve what have got with the rest thanks to my ham fists |

hey northstandgw! Il think that the flat cable to the screen is not properly connected. I am not 100% sure but give it a try |

Thanks Swixit! It is a swine to get the cable into the connector, so I suspect you may be correct. I may try and assemble the connectors outside of the chassis and see if that works first - then persevere with the cable and screen in situ... I will let everyone know (there is another backlight question on this forum). NSGW |
