Please add Navigon forums

OK, so Navigon is new, but IMHO it's here to stay. I think it's time for a Navigon forum. Also, I don't know much about the structure of this forum, but it would be nice to have separate forums for each major model.

The major US Navigon models are 2100/5100/7100.
Differences are T for traffic, 2120 is Canada, etc.

Re: Please add Navigon forums

Thanks for the suggestion(s)

I agree, Navigon is making a pretty strong initial showing and they are one of the brands that I think we'll be adding a dedicated section to soon.

As for the unit specific areas - that may come with time depending on the post volume. We can always relocate the posts at a later date if needed.

Thanks again

Me too for the Navigon section. One of the reasons why I joined this forum.

Re: Please add Navigon forums

I've been around this forum and there are plenty of Navigon posts... even enough for separate sub forums by model#...

so what are you waiting for?

It's too confusing to have that many sub-forums on a new site. It would require hundreds of posts on each model for them to warrant their own individual sub-forum.

Still planning to add a Navigon forum, however.

Re: Please add Navigon forums

Keith, you had me confused.

Since you post "Jake's Journal" in the Garmin News section, and when I follow those links it is a Garmin employee talking, I thought he was you.

But you are just adding news to keep us all updated, like an Administrator should do, right?

No affiliation with Garmin other than as customer, right?

Correct 100%, none of us work for Garmin, Magellan, Navigon, TomTom, Mio...etc.

You should really check out other sites. Esp 1src.com and mytreo.net

You say it's confusing to have separate forums, I say it's confusing NOT to have separate forums. If I have a Navigon 2100, wouldn't I spend most of my time looking for posts about that model specifically? For instance, The 7100 and 5100 [???] apparently are 640x480 while the 2100 is 320x240 [VGA:QVGA] So the skins are not going to be compatable. Therefore, If I'm looking for info about skins for the 2100, I'd want to look in a forum that's about the 2100, since 7100 skins wouldn't work for my 2100...

There could still be a general section for basic questions about NAVIGON...

Secondly, how hard is it to add a forum? I've done forum before and it was easy to set up new sections.

Thanks for listening!

Re: Please add Navigon forums

It's confusing for novice users to come in and have to look through 100 different forums that each only have 1 or 2 posts in them.

I've been running very large forums for a very long time, so trust me. As the site grows, the layout will change to accomodate. Having a new, startup site, with 100 forums is a recipe for disaster.

As long as people use good, descriptive, thread titles it should be easy to find information related to any specific models.

Re: Please add Navigon forums

The Navigon forum has been added, along with a Navigon News forum that pulls in their latest news. (also added to the right column on the site "Home" page)

Re: Please add Navigon forums

Thanks, Keith.

I agree that it is often easier to just use search to filter down to what you are looking for, since obscure models get no threads at all. Some info relevant to the product line is better than no info for the specific model.

But nice to have the demand so expansion is justified!

No Navigon here, but it appears to be a line to keep an eye on. CES 2008 award, and all...

No, those are just RSS Feeds from the various manufacturers. I have updated them to be posted under a generic "RSS" username to prevent any confusion.

As noted in the site footer, we are in no way affiliated.

Keith,

What, you think I bothered to read the fine print?

Um, you're right! It does indeed say that and I did miss it completely!

I agree with everything you said, except lately search engines aren't doing it for me. Over at GpsPasSion it's french and english, and it's very hard to search for anything. The other sites I mentioned are also having search engine woes.

But it IS nice to now have a forum at least! Thanks...

EDIT: Though it MIGHT be nice to sticky a readme that states to say the model # and a detailed subject line so ppl can follow along...

Re: Please add Navigon forums

I thought we did that already

I'll go make another sweep...

edit: Just checked...they're in there from where I am seeing. If you encounter any that are not though, drop me a pm with the link to the thread and I'll toss it in there.

There are some various posts about them in other discussions but I wasn't going to disjoint the existing threads and make them confusing.

There is always the new thread button if it's important enough

I did. There was only 1. Then a couple of new ones have been posted since.

There are other threads that mention Navigon, but they also mention other brands (asking for comparisons, etc), so those stay in the "General GPS" forum.

Re: Please add Navigon forums

I noticed that... had it confused with and forum site that does have a lot of NAVIGON posts.

BTW, unless something happens between now and Saturday to convince me otherwise, I'm taking my 2100 back.

I can't abide the horrible routing!

EDIT: NAVIGON is GONE! Now have a MIO C230. life is a little better, now if it had up to date maps... [no, I'm never happy with imperfection, but hey, nobodies perfect!!!]

Re: Please add Navigon forums

multi sub-forums are good on paper and for limited groups. for the best way to get the info on a specific subject, remember the search tool is your friend.

Re: Please add Navigon forums

I actually have a Navigon 7100 that I should probably be reporting about more in here, but it's like testing a mousetrap in a dark room in bare feet, except more painful
