Win XP Black Theme

If anyone is like me, I'm always tinkering with fonts and colors on my systems. There was a secret Win XP black theme, originally designed for the Media Edition, that at some point was removed. It has surfaced on the net in 2006 called Royal Noir.

Information on it here.

Most of the google hits on it say it was never finished. I tried it but didn't care for the greenish start button and some other quirks. Some poeple have modified it and fixed it up, but I don't like running programs that aren't from known companies.

Microsoft has released an official black theme for XP. It's part of the Zune music player software.

The Official XP theme is available here.

Check it out if you like a darker XP. It looks great with Aquatint Black Firefox theme too.

Re: Win XP Black Theme

I just switched Firefox back to the default theme to take a look. It made the window border black but not the menu, tabs, etc. Is that what it did there? Take a look at the Aquatint black theme too.

Nice.

I almost put a link in there for it. The guy who made it had a Thunderbird version as well.

Re: Win XP Black Theme

I'm still running the Zune theme, with my own background of course. The longest I've kept any theme. I usually change it up every couple weeks but not this one.

Re: Win XP Black Theme

I must admit, Im running it on two machines and yes - DEFINITELY the longest running theme ever for me. Great find

I actually had to drop it on my wiki at work so people would stop asking me for the link.

Re: Win XP Black Theme

Here's another nice looking theme if you get tired of the dark one. A blue one that isn't the cartoon blue default of XP.

Re: Win XP Black Theme

I must admit it is pretty flashy, although I don't quite like the idea of that green button either.. Is there any tool you guys know of to edit themes so maybe I could edit this easily?

I'm a tinkerer myself, but more of the lazy variety lol

Re: Win XP Black Theme

I did find some links through Google which would let you change the color. It required patching one of window's system files and then loading up some other software that let you pick what color you wanted. I don't download from unknown sources enough to try it though and didn't keep the link.
