Navigon 5100 TMC (Traffic) Problem

I am very happy with my Navigon 5100 for the almost two years that I have owned it. I understand that the traffic signals only work in large metropolitan areas. On a recent trip, I received traffic updates fine on the way, but on the way back I received nothing. The TMC (traffic) icon on the screen also did something un-usual. It appears red for about a second, then completely disappears for 5 seconds. It repeats this over and over again, whether I am in an area with traffic reception or not.

I looked at the manual, and it states the TMC icon should always appear on the screen unless there is no TMC receiver.

Has anyone else seen this behavior?

Thanks.
