Navigon- Help

Hi everyone, this is my first post.
I bought a reff. Navigon 2000s from tigerdirect, it came with Q3 2008 maps.
Navigon fresh let me upgrade the firmware or program to 7.3.7. I would like to also upgrade the maps, but can not find any information about map upgrade for the 2000s. I know Navigon has stopped US support. I am new to Navigon and do not know how the maps are set up and what map will work on what unit(MN6, MN6.3, MN6.5, MN7 and so on ). I don't mind reading to find out, but I can't find a place that gives this information.

I like my Garmin's but this Navigon looks nice.

Any help would be greatfull.

Re: Navigon- Help

Hello, eddiedan. I guess there's just not that many NAVIGON users on this forum.... I'm certainly not one. The devices, from what I can tell (from Googling) are nicely featured and very inexpensive - but nearly impossible to get support for. I guess that's one of the dangers when purchasing a GPS unit not made by one of the 'Big 3.'

You've tried contacting NAVIGON USA directly, with no success? A quick perusal of the 2000s User's Guide shows no capability of loading additional maps besides the base map that came with the system. If there was some way for users to load maps, then I'd recommend that you try one of the third party map sites (GPS File Depot, CloudMade, etc.). If you can figure out how your maps are stored on your system, then perhaps you might be able to figure out how to update them manually using the mentioned resources. Good luck!

Re: Navigon- Help

Thanks, HumVee Yea, I've tried Navigon and:this is what I got Thank you for your inquiry.
Accessories, map material and content are not available in North America through NAVIGON.
Unfortunately we don't have information concerning the availability of these products at other major retail shops.

NAVIGON Inc. will be reallocating resources from its branded line of portable navigation devices to focus on more profitable segments within the navigation sector in North America. This transition will place an increased emphasis on NAVIGON’s heritage, software development – the core of any navigation experience. NAVIGON Inc. will focus on software with an enthusiastic push into mobile and smartphone segments, as well as a continuation of support for both OEM and automotive sectors. NAVIGON Inc. believes that software development is our core competence

SO,

I have a Garmin nuvi 760 and 260, liked the lane assist on the Navigon for my wife, even though it says exit right, she will ask which lane do I need to be in. I know in real bussy interchanges there are 2-3 lanes all leading to a different distration, so this woulod make it easier for her. I saw Garmin has come out with lane assist and junction view, but I don't think I can put it on my 770, I think it takes a XX5 to show.

thanks
eddie

Re: Navigon- Help

Yeah...Garmin currently has "Lane Assist" capability on 11 nüvi models, plus the zūmo 660 - so the least costly Garmin GPS unit (the 1350) would run you close to $300, new. You might be able to find a used one on Craigslist or ebay if somebody is looking to upgrade....

Re: Navigon- Help

Man I'm in deep dudu, I was messing around with the with the software and made some mistakes, I had done a back up so I was not worried. Well I tried to do a restore but it said the restore files were corrupt and would not restore. Now I have nothing, it did have 7.3.7 on the unit.

help, help

Re: Navigon- Help

Sorry, eddiedan - I don't own a Navigon, and won't be able to help you directly. My suggestion to you is to try to contact other forum members who've placed posts regarding the same model GPS unit as you - and do Google searches (or whatever your favorite search engine is) for other Navigon users - and see if they would be willing to send you a copy of their firmware. I don't know if that would even work (as it may be locked to the unit serial number) but it might be worth a try!

Otherwise...you may be looking for a used Garmin with Lane Assist sooner that you had planned!

Re: Navigon- Help

You can buy the updated maps and software on ebay that would resolve this problem. They have Q2/2009 Full USA&Canada maps on MicroSD card, just plug n play. They also have europe maps for these models. This is where I got mine from: Navigon 2000S/2090S Complete USA/Canada Map Set Q2 2009 - eBay (item 220438523961 end time Jun-29-09 20:35:33 PDT)
