| Entering addresses in cities with grid system
I have just returned from a visit to Salt Lake City, Utah. There I was confronted with a new challenge in using my GPS. Instead of the standard street name and number address, they use a grid system which uses coordinates in terms North/South and East/West as addresses. I could never figure out how to enter addresses on my Navigon for any destination that was not already a POI. My only solution was to use Google Earth (which takes the grid system addresses) and have it convert to Longitude/Latitude. I then located these lat/long on the Navigon map and saved them as named Favorite destinations. By doing that, my Navigon GPS was then able to guide me properly from point to point. Has anyone figured out how to enter grid system addresses directly on a Navigon GPS? |

welcome to the site bonecrusher ![]() Salt Lake City uses normal addresses, it is just that they are numbered using the temple as the starting point in all directions. You can call it a grid, and visualize it that way, but it is still just addresses. You just have to make sure you put the direction letter in the right place (prefix or suffix depending on what quadrant of the city you are in). Having said that, I do not have a Navigon. But if it accepts addresses, they should work. |

Thanks. I received an answer from Navigon Tech Support that advised me to enter the number pairs (first "1800" & then "200" from the address 1800 South 200 West) without regard for a street name. When you do that, the Navigon will return a set of addresses from which to select. In this case, 1800 South 200 West shows up as one of the choices. All you have to do at this point is to select the one you want. It works, but is not exactly intuitive. It is not addressed in the manual. Garmins work similarly.
