H People's,
Talked to a fellow at Navigon yesterday, told him I was sending the unit back for likely repair. He said the upgrade was posted and suggested I should load it to the unit and see what I think. Claimed it resolved many issues. Long story short, have now done that and all went well. Weather sucks and much to do around here, so won't get to check it out for a bit. Will post, what I find then. Hopefully it will be all good news, Later ! .......... Hank G.

Well it's me again, and no I did not send my 7100 back. I got the software update and installed it to the unit. Operation was very much improved so saw no need to send the unit back. Have now made my cross country trip with it and these are my observations. I find the unit to be excellent. The display is truly amazing. I will point out though that on the highway the traffic info is handy, BUT! and this is a big but. When traveling through the city of Dallas TX. during rush hour, it is absolutely useless. As quickly as it reroutes you, it finds that the new route is no better then the previous one. In truth you can't even use the unit because it will NEVER settle on a route. Only sensible thing to do is turn the function off, which is what I was forced to do. Anyhoooooooooooo! thought I would mention it. Soooooooooooooooo! for now that is about that. ................. Hank Im glad your trip went well

I too found the traffic function to be useless anytime things get busy in my area. Also not sure why or how, but the traffic events on this seem to arrive slower than they do on my Nuvi 680.

If you think the 7100's display is amazing, you need to get your hands on a Nuvi 760 my friend (or even a 200).

I'm trying to find the love for the 7100...but it's dying.

p.s. I did the upgrade too, and the button presses are MUCH better now, but still lacking a real 'touchscreen' feel. If you want more evidence of this, look no forther than ebay and search 'navigon parts' , there are always about 10 units in there with broken screens - you can clearly see the users pressed hard on them in specific spots
