Navigon Routing problems

I have seen many posts regarding the problems Navigon users [ALL MODELS] are experiencing.

Has anyone heard when NAVIGON plans to post an upgrade that will fix this issue?

Thanks.

Also, This could be THE PLACE to post updated news about this... [The RSS feed not withstanding, since that's PR hype...]

Re: Navigon Routing problems

But come on, it shows you the next highway exit!

In all seriousness, that sucks...is it a map data validity issue, or is it like there is a disconnect between the routing logic and possible courses of travel?

I'm just looking for a general example, since 2 people I know were considering them and I was still standing in the middle on them. If they don't route, uh.... I hear TomTom's do similar in random cases...but sounds like the Navigon it's more constant

Two examples

1. I live in Auburn Al. So I set my 'home to address hidden, Auburn, Al
and I was in Mongomery off Taylor road and Chadburn Xng. I told my 2100 to "Take me home" and it showed the following route:
[I hid the fake address in case anyone got an idea, even though it'd be the wrong info...]

right on taylor to Vaughn, left on Vaughn to eastern BLVD, Rt on EB to I85N [exit 6], to Aub...

But if I go straighnt on Taylor for 1 mile [a clear and nice divided road.] I hit I85N at exit 9. The other route takes me 6 miles out of the way.

So, I went straight at Vaughn and it rerouted me, NOT to I85N exit 9, to Aub, but I85S,[exit9 to Montg. then Leave I85 at exit 6, make a u turn to I85N then to Aub. [Again, 6 miles out of the way] To me it's frustrating, to a new person in town it's a waste of time and gas if you follow that route.

So, I took I85N and once on the highway it went even crazier. Now it wanted me to get off at exit 11, make a U turn, go to exit 6, Make a U turn, THEN head to Auburn!!! WHAT???? it's dumb and stupid!

2. I'm on west magnolia in Auburn, AL. I want to go to O'Charlie's on 280 next I85 exit 58. The BEST way to go is Left on College, Right on Glenn, then stay on Glenn as it turns into Frederick, then right on 280, then reach dest'. on left.

The MIO and My GPS V both show this as the shortest, and fastest route [and most economical {MIO}]

But the stupid 2100 wants me to go Left on College, Right on Glenn, Left on Gay, right on Opelika road to Airport road [ a horrible little road that winds around at 30 MPH [Glenn is 45 most of the way] Anyway, Right on Airport road to [you guessed it] Frederick!!!, then continue to 280, etc... 19 minutes VS 12 the other way!

this is just two examples. BTW, mine is going back and I bought a MIO C230 which routes much better.

BTW: It's pretty bad when my five year old GPS V routes better then my BRAND NEW Navigon!!!

Re: Navigon Routing problems

UPDATE:

HHGREG gave me 100% refund without any problem. and I've unlocked my MIO plus I've added a skin that I liked. Even made some changes...
Now if the maps were just a little more current!

Re: Navigon Routing problems

OH - so you think I gave my REAL address! cool

BTW, I still am not happy. I want the maps and routing of a garmin, and still see my speed on the map page. What do I get? MIO maps are horrible. I can't seem to find one the fits the bill. TTS and all those other media abilities aren't important.

Re: Navigon Routing problems

egadgetguy, I know what you mean. The GPS offerings are expanding rapidly, but in many cases they are moving backward.

And none of them is quite what anyone wants, really.

Buy a handheld mapping model from Garmin. You can adjust what data fields are show on each page. I have both my 76S and 76CSx setup with certain fields on certain pages. Obviously no fancy touchscreen option. There just isn't anything out there that "does it all."

Re: Navigon Routing problems

Or I could keep my GPSV!

I really don't know why garmin won't let you configure the display on the Nuvis! Others do!

Re: Navigon Routing problems

Yeah I don't get it either. They already have these features in their handheld line. It would be easy enough to apply that programming to a Nuvi to make it customizable.

GPS use to be a high tech gadget for us techy folks. I don't think they are after the techy crowd anymore, they want average users. Maybe they feel more options means more complicated and "scary" to new users.

Agreed. Seems to me too, based on reading various downloaded PDF manuals that models in some series actually have FEWER 'techy' options as the line progresses.

I personally hate having just 2 GPS units now because I see things in both I really want in just 1 unit. Not a single feature on one couldn't have been done or included on the other.

As above though, the TeleAtlas maps or OK for most of my routes and its routing in good (haven't needed to take the profile off of Fast yet) but I found like 15 to 16 errors on my 13 mile ride to work alone. And I'm talking some big stuff too like roads in the wrong locations, roads missing, roads included that don't exist, etc. (2007.01 maps and things change of course but come on).

All other GPS units I get from now on will be required to have Navteq maps (until they drop the ball or something). The Navigon is very detailed (voice says 'major names' instead of 'local' names like the Mio; example: 'US-80 BR Broad Street' is 'US-80 Business Route' on the Navigon and 'Broad Street' on the Mio). It's routing requires that I check the profiles to pick the best one though.
