| Probelms with Navigon 2100 traffic?
Does anyone on here have the Navigon 2100 with the traffic. I bought the unit with the traffic service, the traffic service is not working. Called Navigon customer service, said they would call me back, that has been two weeks ago, still no call.

I don't have one of these but I'll give it a shot. Are you in an area that has traffic coverage? I have the traffic service with my Garmin Nuvi 660. It's about $60/year but it only works in certain areas. My home town is not one of them. Navigon's FAQ mentions you can receive the traffic signal using the included traffic antenna or not using it but that it works better with it. Are you using the antenna? It also looks like Navigon uses the TMC traffic data provided by Clear Channel on an FM frequency. There are only about 65 cities/areas in the US with coverage. Are you near any of these? |

I recently drove with my Navigon 5100 from Chicago to Phoenix. The traffic functionality worked fine in a number of areas along the way. Perhaps your area does not have traffic reception. The 5100 came with an antenna to improve reception. Not sure if the 2100 has this also - but might help if it does.

I just received my Navigon 2100. During the inital setup, I saw the Traffic Message icon on screen and it eas working. For some reason it stopped. I called Navigon and the suggested a clean startup in the car and also to make sure the power adapter is pluged in. Apparently the power adapter also doubles a the THC's antenna. I livew about 35 miles from Philadelphia, so in the boonies the antenna is a big help. I'm looking for the external antenna ..... if anyone has a link to it please post it. Good luck!

Do you know what are those areas / cities too in Canada? I noticed that in Toronto alone, TMC is not always working. Why is this so? Thanks.

I also have the 5100 and the added antenna wire. Frankly I haven't strung the wire out, so my results are simple w/o antenna. I live in far north Dallas in a residential country estate, and commute 21 miles into Dallas(Richardson) area. My 5100 GPS flags traffic events as far as 10-15 miles from central Dallas w/o the ext antenna, good enough for me. DFW is a nice area for this service! But I will have to admit, my primary car GPS is a Garmin 660, and it picks up traffic events even on the far market road before getting to US75. The 5100 Nav is used primarily on my Goldwing bike. It is fun having both of these GPSs. Anyone customized the install of that wire antenna into their car or bike? I woouldn't mind having it if I could make it neat and un-noticed. sidV | |
