I want to be able to write a program that tells me what street I am on using the gps info from my cell phone. Once I get have the gps position, is there a database I can access to get what street I am on? Thank you, Jonathan jsass@magnifeye.com |

Are you looking for an online based program? Most cases require a map software, which translates the Latitude/Longitude coordinates, that is then marked as a point on a map. These software packages can be downloaded, or purchased. The purchased versions tend to be updated, where as free software can be up to 10 years old.

I will be writing the program for my cell phone (yes it will be online). I am not interested in the map, I just want the street. Not sure how the Sprint phone returns co-ordinates, but will use those co-ordinates to get the info.

There are plenty such programs already out there, why reinvent the wheel? If you write a program to get the GPS Coordinates from the phone, you could then write a program to enter these into google maps, and parse the returned information to only return the street name to your phone. |
