Range finding for relative distances

Hello everyone,

I have a question concering range finding, I was hoping someone might be able to help.

Problem statement:
I would like to find the distance between two points without line of sight over roughly 40m. I'm looking for an accuracy of below 1 m. I do not care about their absolute positions, just the relative distance between the two.

I'm pretty sure there must be a standard way of doing this but I have hit a dead end with my google searching. I have been searching on 'differential gps' but this is really overkill since I don't care about the absolute distances.

Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any advice,

Paul
