As I understand it, there are no CCPs for GPS500, and this firmware patch version 5.10 is free to all users. Similarly, in March 2008 when a 31st GPS satellite was launched, GPS500 was unable to handle more than 30 satellites and froze (at time of design in late 90s, >30 sats were unheard of). 5.06 firmware was released then to fix this for free, 4 years after GPS500 ceased production. So I'm not sure how you guys using version 2 are working or maybe you don't do RTK? I agree they still should have notified on their website though as not all users are in touch with dealers or Leica offices.

pedram55, no you have to go through the versions step by step, 2 to 3 to 4 to 5.06, then 5.10. You can't jump past a version. I don't know where you can get old versions from (not on Leica website) other than ask your Leica dealer.

If 5.06 was a free upgrade then why is the download locked and only available to contract customers, dealers and internal users? Yes it does appear there is quite a bit of difference between dealers depending n the country.

I dunno about the download lock, but I don't have a maintenance contract for GPS500 and they emailed me the firmware and instructions on Thurs so I then uploaded it for others and posted here. We will see what their website says on Mon (Swiss time).

Thanks for the info. I used a cable and SKI-Pro to load the firmware. I don;t have PCMCIA cards anymore. I use CF cards and an adaptor which Leica warns not to use. System is working and tracking sats.

Hello! There is a caution NOT to use CF cards in an adapter. We have PCMCIA cards, but they are 16M. The instructions with the patch say that the card should be >4MB. Has anyone tried loading the 5.10 patch with a larger card? Ed |

I have, on an original Leica PCMCIA card 16Mb it works fine. It has to be bigger than 4Mb because the firmwaer is 3.6 Mb. Have done 2 units already. Next 4 units are scheduled tomorrow. The GPS has to be on for more than 1/2 hour after the update so the almanac gets fully updated. One week no GPS, that was a major problem. Last edited by ERROsoft; 08-24-2009 at 3:19 PM. |

The SR510s are L1 (single frequency only), not capable of RTK (SR530s), so I guess that is why you never upgraded firmware before. To check your firmware version, press the STATUS key, then 3 General, 3 Software versions and it is the top line that is your current version. The Leica website says contact your local dealer for the archive of firmware. Sorry I can't be any more help

| Re: Leica 500 - Local Date Issues From the "Official" Series 500 patch information Along with the GPS System 500 receivers the GS20 and SR20 share the same measurement engine, they are having a similar issue. A fix for these receivers is already in the works. We will keep you updated to the status of that fix as well. Ed |

For what it's worth, we had version 4.00 and 5.0 on our units. we tried the upgrade on one using the ATA card method and the other using the Serial cablle through GFO - BOTH FAILED and I get the same error now on boot-up. Waiting for rep to return call/email AAAAAARRRRGHH! Ed |

I used Ski-pro ver3 and a serial cable that would plug into the same port that the keyboard plugs into. I'm not sure what that the model number was on the cable but it had the 9 pin female plug on one end and the same type plug on the other end that would plug into the keyboard port. Even though I was able to get the patch to work, the company I work for bought a new Trimble R8 model 3 GPS system for me to use. One of the reasons they went with Trimble and not a Leica was the problem we all had with the 500.

Maybe the company you work for could also keep up to date with software versions. Ski-pro has not been around for years and current version is LGO 7? So is your computer that old that it still uses a serial keyboard/mouse? Time for a new computer to go with your new R8's. Maybe you should have updated to 1200's 5 years ago? |

hi everyone I rceived a system 530 which the owner tried to update the firmware and make it halt. I tried another flash card, lgeo office software upload and anything I know but the display stops on transfer and I have to remove the battery to reboot the system500. So if there is any suggestion please let me know. Peyman pbashiri@irnaghshineh.com |

Hi. I was hoping someone might have some suggestions. I was using a Leica GS20 in the field last to get some elevation readings. Until now I was totally unaware of the above issues of the 500 (I see the GS20 was also mentioned). The unit seemed to work and took readings fine over a full hour (matching roughly with a Garmin handheld GPS). However I started trying to post process it and only than noticed all the dates begin in Feb 1990 but the times are correct. I have field notes with the correct dates. Anyone know how I could manually change the dates of the readings (if this is even possible ?!? ) to allow for post processing? Or are the readings totally useless? I am only needing sub meter accuracy for the elevation. Thanks |

Editing the dates could only be done in Rinex and might be an interesting exercise but would probably take you more time than to simply redo the survey? Editing just the dates would be a lot less critical than the times. Are you exactly sure the times are perfectly ok? If so then why not try just a small section of the rinex files which wil include both the Obs (header & data) and Nav file times. If mine then I would probably simply re-do the survey. |

SR530 can be powered through the Power or Port2/Power sockets. Both are 5 pin type Lemo FGG.1B.305.CLCx.xxZ Looking at the bottom of the SR530 with the data slot door in the top right hand corner, PWR socket is marked as the bottom left most bottom socket, Port2/PWR is the next socket left of Port1. 5 pin Lemo config is Pin1 (Batt/12V+) is top most pin and then run anti-clockwise so Pin3 (Ground -) is at about 7 o'clock. In modifying what ever cable you might have you also do this knowing something about what you are doing and take full responsibility. |

Thanks GNSS (#87)! Editing the dates in Rinex has allowed it to work. Our results match the few trig beacons in the study - so it seems it was just the date that was wrong, all the other data seems good. The reason for requiring the editing is that the study area was about 5000km away from where I am so re-doing the survey was out of the question. Thanks again |
