Magellan Meridian Platinum eprom

I cannot make my Meridian work. It is dead. Has anyone ever heard of openning one of these puppies up and replacing an eprom or chip or something. If so, where would one get a new eprom or something?

Have you tried the clear all memory "trick" yet?
I just found it in some of my old savings.

Press Enter-Menu-Power all at the same time, to Clear all memory.
Says Exit: Esc and then you get the Warning.

Re: Magellan Meridian Platinum eprom

Zee,
I figured it out. It was the wire from the computer to the unit. It worked when transmitting data to the computer, but not from the computer to the unit. I opened the unit up and cleaned the electrodes so I could use the batteries to power it. Then I connected it to another interface wire I had and went throught the expert upload procedure and I got it to accept. Now I have another problem to solve. There is a line running from top to bottom of my screen that was never there before. The line is not very wide but it is annoying. Any suggestions on what is causing it?

Re: Magellan Meridian Platinum eprom

Joy with the good news part!
About the line.... Never heard about it in a Maggie. Seemed to be a common problem with the Garmin etrex units. Some got by with a smack alongside it, others had to go inside and "fix" the ribbon connection. The best that my tired, anteekyfied, brain can come up with at this late hour.
More if my research comes up with something.
Sometimes one can do a google for something like: Lines across gps screen, or something close, and come up with the answer amongst the 6 thou replies. You might go backinside and ck for an obvious poor connection.

Re: Magellan Meridian Platinum eprom

Thanks for your help, Zee. I don't think I should go in again unless a tech can tell me exactly what to do, like the line is caused by corosion on a certain wire or connection or something. But if you can find something that will tell me what causes a line to run down the LCD screen, let me know. Thanks again.
