Smart detour vs live traffic link

Hi peoples! I'm new here.
I just ordered a RM1445T and I noticed on the software updates that SmartDetour is part of the newest firmware.

What exactly is smart detour? Does this make the live traffic link unneccesary since it will reroute traffic congested roads?
I can save myself about $30 by choosing the 1440 rather than the 1445t.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Smart detour vs live traffic link

With smart detour you have to know if there is road repair or an accident in
an area and put in how far to detour around this point.
With live traffic the road work accident etc. is broad cast to your GPS so it
can alert you ahead of time.
This works but usually by the time the accident gets reported you have already been stuck, Then you can use smart detour to help you leave the highway ASAP and route you around the holdup.
The other thing to watch out for and check on is does your area have coverage of the live traffic. You can lookup on the magellan web site where there is good coverage.
Hope this makes it a little easier for your decision
