Sortrak Map Problem. Help!

I bought this unit about a year ago and it has worked great until the other day when I started it up and got the following error:

"UNIT CURRENTLY CONTAINS NO MAP! INITIATING MAP UPLOAD"

Now I am guessing that this mean there is no base map. What the heck could have caused my base map to be erased? Better yet, where can I get a replacement? I went to the Magellan site and they do not offer support for the Sportrak anymore. Surly some out there has copies of the most recent firmware and base maps for the Sportrak. Well at least I hope so, or I just lost $200. It should be illegal to sell a product and not support it a year later. I love the unit, but I hate Magellan's support policies.

Please help me! Thanks

Eureka! I Found It! The Solution.

Follow these steps to fix the “UNIT CURRENTLY CONTAINS NO MAP! INITIATING MAP” ERROR.
Step 1: Download the firmware update for your Sportrak model from:
Magellan GPS. Extract the zip file to your desktop.

Step 2: Download the base map file, NA_B101.IMG. This one is hard to find but you might look
on the following yahoo group page for the file: m330 : The Map 330 Club . Look in their FILES folder for the file called, NA_B101.zip. You may have to join this group to gain access to this folder. Download the file and extract it to your desktop.

Step 3: Now that you have the files necessary to fix your unit, follow these step exactly to upload the base map file.
  1. Turn off the unit and connect it to your computer using the Magellan serial cable. If your computer does not have a serial port you can buy a, SERIAL to USB adaptor.
  2. Now simultaneously press and hold that button the looks like the world and the button with the man on it (GOTO button). While holding these buttons, press and release the power button. Two zeros will appear in the middle of the screen like this, 00. Using the central joystick, change the zeros to the number, 98. The press the enter button once.
  3. Go to the folder where you extracted the firmware update you downloaded first and look for the Magup.exe file and double click it to launch the Thales Navigation Firmware Uploader. Click NO on the UPLOAD pop up window. Now Click on EXPERT from the menu bar. The EXPERT SETUP window appears. On the EXPERT SETUP window choose your GPS model. Then choose the com port your GPS is connected to. Now check the box next to the word ON under EXPERT UPLOAD. Then click OK.
  4. [i]
Note: If you do not know what your serial com port is, here is a way to find out. Click on START, and then on CONTROL PANEL. In the CONTROL PANEL, scroll down and double click on SYSTEM. Then click on DEVICE MANAGER. In the DEVICE MANAGER, look for PORTS (COM & LPT) and click in the + symbol to the left to expand the category. You should see your serial listed here and the com port it is on will be listed to next to it.
  5. On the Menu bar click on UPLOAD. Click OK on the reminder pop up window. On the SELECT UPLOAD TYPE window check the box next to BASE MAP ONLY. The SELECT BASE MAP FILE window appears. In this window Navigate to the folder on your desktop where the, NA_B101.IMG file is located (you should have already extracted it here earlier if you are following all the steps.) Select the NA_B101.IMG file and click OPEN. The window closes and the UPLOAD FILE window appears. Click on the box next to UPLOAD and the upload process begins automatically. The process may take several minutes. Once it is done, restart your unit and you are on your way.
Since you now have downloaded the latest firmware and your unit is now functioning properly, you might as well update your firmware if it needs it. Follow the instruction found on the page where you downloaded the firmware update for your unit in step one.
Happy navigating!
