| Trition 400 NMEA data -> USB out
Today I went out to get a new GPS for my bike and after the Garmin Venture HC I wanted was out of stock, I settled for a Magellan Trition 400. The unit as a whole is pretty nice, the menu system is smooth, etc. HOWEVER! There is one thing bugging me. I can't pull NMEA data off it through USB. It does have the option, and says so when you connect the USB cable, but when you select it, and open the COM port (in my case COM4), NOTHING. Has any one here gotten this feature to work? If so, what is your setup? Thanks, Chris |

Hi Chris, I've not yet used a Triton but what I have read about them made it sound like there was alot of features that wouldn't be updated till later firmware releases. So, the next question is have you upgraded the firmware to the latest revision? How are you trying to pull the NMEA data off of it for the testing of COM4? I would recommend trying a hyperterminal session (if thats not what you're already doing).

Hi Max, Thanks for the reply. I don't need the NMEA stuff right away, it would just be cool to have. So if I wait around, they should release a new firmware for it? Yes, my FW is upgraded to 1.31, the latest. I am trying to pull NMEA data off it through USB. The device appears to emulate a serial port with the GPS plugged into it. When I PuTTY into COM4 with 4800 Baud, I get nothing. It connects ok, and the GPS says that the computer is connected, however I do not see any NMEA sentences coming through. COM0-COM3 are bluetooth mapped, so I know it is 4. Also Vista said that the device appeared as "COM4" when I installed it for the first time. Thanks, Chris | |

The latest firmware update came out in late june: v 1.41 --some one on the triton forum seemed really excited that the NMEA function was finally available.

Saw your other thread and realized I never did check back on this one, glad to see that firmware fixed the triton's NMEA ability
