magellan and vista problem

I hope I can get some help here as magellan suport seems to be a common problem. I have an explorist 400 and I cant get the maps to move from my pc to the reciever. I've followed the instructions on their site but where it says that it should be on my pc as a removeable drive letter its not there. I have the maps and the program on (I think) but I cant do anything with it.

Re: magellan and vista problem

Not many people here use Magellan, because their products are sub-par (my opinion) and their Customer and Technical support suck (verified fact from many Magellan owners).

Re: magellan and vista problem

I don't have a problem with Vista. Works fine, assuming you have the hardware to handle it. On my older laptops/PCs I stick with XP.

Re: magellan and vista problem

Ok, Keith, then how come his GPS does not show up as a USB Mass Storage Device on his Vista?

Mine showed up 1st time, every time, on XP.

Re: magellan and vista problem

That would be an issue with the drivers for the device, not anything with Vista itself.

You put Magellan and Vista in the same subject line dude, two things I know absolutely ZERO about, so be grateful I had nothing to offer ya

But I saw this thread and did some checking around and it's not quite clear to me but I don't think Magellan actually supports map downloads via Vista PC's.

The only thing I could find about Vista and your explorist was this page. It addresses some nmea connectivity issue to Vista PC's. Unless I am mistaken this isn't used for map transfers, it's only actual navigational data.

Here is the link though, maybe it's a start?

Loadbreak did you look in my computer as a removable drive, this is where it should be.

Re: magellan and vista problem

Been running a computer since dos and I see nothing wrong with vista or magellan, most of the problems people have with both are self inflicted, Most people do not read instructions or websites . I will agree that magellans support could inprove and what I am hearing sending it to india does not help but what the h**l microsoft done this years ago and there support sucks big time but I still will not give up windows.
