Magellan 4050 v2.36 - ETA issue

Oh my gosh (taken from Friends, to be read in a nasal tone!) - I can't believe how non-responsive Magellan has been. As we have all read and heard - the firmware update v2.36 for the 4050 has programming flaws.
Some people can't get the correct directions - I would have it routing to my house and it would have me exit the freeway only to get back on the freeway at the next entrance ramp (no traffic this time of night either). It also had me go 4 miles (and 10 minutes) out of my way taking surface streets when the freeway entrance was only 0.5 miles straight ahead. Crazy, I know - it's software that's been around forever, not brain surgery!
Response time is much slower than previous version - how could it get much slower! Well it did!
After several e-mails to Magellan support and a bit of research, I found the following from my own searches and it (so far) got rid of the above 2 issues:

I reformatted the Magellan hard drive per instructions found on a forum and did a "clean install" of firmware v2.36. That got rid of the idiot directions. Response time is back to its usual slow self - but no slower.

The one problem which I cannot resolve is driving me crazy - an ETA that changes - not by minutes (as would be expected as you drive in traffic), by hours. The GPS doesn't know what time zone I'm in or something. I could arrive at 8:22 A.M. and then it will switch to 4:33 P.M. then back to 8:22 A.M. then to 11:29 P.M. It is the craziest thing. I looked at system settings, changed them, reset the device (funnily enough, this is all the brainy support people at Magellan told me to do and it's there crappy software giving me the problems).

I asked Magellan to get back to me in 48 hours, 96 hours ago (that, after 4 weeks of problems) - nice of them to get back to me with no fix at all! I guess they are waiting until they go out of business and we all purchase Garmin GPS systems - then they won't have to worry about their crappy product at all, eh! I guess support staff in non-US countries tend to take more holiday time than those in the U.S. (not a slight, but fact - which I'm really jealous about - but that's another board all together!).

If anyone knows how to correct this issue, I would greatly appreciate it. In the meantime, I'm off to the store to get a Garmin. I won't even sell this unit on E-bay because I don't want the purchaser to come back to me saying this unit doesn't work to his / her satisfaction! For now, I'm stuck with a box!

Thanks

I'm sorry you are both having problems with your Magellans, but I would like to welcome you, ave2006 and jefcor, to the site.
The Magellan GPS units are often quite good, it is such a shame their customer service stinks (to put it politely).
