| Do I want to buy a Crossover
I haven't owned a GPS for several years. My last, years ago, was a Lowrance handheld, which served me well on my boat. I recently started looking for a car model,,,, I like Magellan, and came across the new Crossover. It appears I can get dual use from this unit, I want to use it for snowmobiling...not necessarily mounted. I need the ability to create and save tracks/waypoints, etc. It appears to be fine for car use, and the longer battery life is what I need for outdoor use. The reviews seem positive, there are apparently some software and firmware updates. I'm looking for opinions of those who have this model. Also any opinions on the software (I think it's ver 1.68) and the firmware (I think it's 2.14) updates are appreciated. I can buy it for $236 delivered. I am a little concerned about the horror stories regarding Tech Support, Warranty Claims, and Update difficulties. Thanks |

There is another recent post here about someone that wanted to use it for snowmobiling but I don't think it saves track data. I could be wrong though as I do not have one myself. I also don't think it works with the more advanced Magellan software either. While the price makes it very appealing, I think you could get a Jensen/Mio and mod it a little bit to suit your needs (better). They seem pretty feature rich and I would imagine are a little cheaper. Or I could suggest a zumo if you like |

The horror stories about Magellan's tech support would keep me away. I like the idea of the Crossover but without any support behind it, I wouldn't buy one myself.

I also thought the fact that it doesen't interface with their route planning software to be a little bit of a strange disconnect. The more I read about it I am not quite sure what is crossing over. It seems to mix the feature set of a lowend handheld with the form factor and simplicity of an auto unit? |

The horror stories about Magellan support are all true. Run away from any MAgellan product as fast as you can!
