| DONT Trust Magellan Support JUST BE CAREFUL OF MAGELLAN. Their customer service is extremely poor as is their delivery of products. They have been promising a new update for nearly a year and when they finally get it, they can't deliver. When I called their customer service, I get "It's being shipped" and that is assuming you can get someone that speaks English. I ordered other items that according to the Web site said they were in stock. Weeks later, I find out that they never were in stock and are backordered with no ship date. Don't count on Magellan to deliver or support their products. The products are good but definately not the best on the market. |

One of the reasons I keep going back to Garmin... Not that they can seem to produce a Mac compatible version of Mapsource. Instead they spend 2 years building software to convert data and requiring a PC to do half of it, which is no help to Mac users. Maybe Garmin sub-contracted Magellan to do the Mac software... |

| Re: DONT Trust Magellan Support
Last year I bought a Magellan Roadmate 760 for myself and for my Dad. Both had to be replaced - mine before I had it a month, my Dad's after about 6 months. Amazon.com replaced mine with no hassles. Magellan replaced my Dad's, again with no hassles. Both replacements have worked well. HOWEVER, when it came time to upgrade the maps, the nightmare started. ![]() I spent an entire day arguing with Magellan GPS "customer service" (and it was the entire day, 10 AM to 6 PM) about screwed up software update orders and a bad disk that erased my entire GPS unit without reloading new maps. I had placed an order for a software update for my GPS, but a $20 off coupon didn't get credited, so I called customer service to fix the problem. Their solution was to cancel my order and have me reorder, except they never canceled the original order. This was after I found out that their sales department doesn't actually take sales orders - you have to order online but their web site had been offline for an update for a week. I also ordered software for my Dad's GPS. My disk came. I followed instructions to load the new maps. The erasing of old maps part worked perfectly, but the uploading of new maps, not so good. So I called to find out (1) why the original order had not been canceled and to get the charge off my credit card, (2) find out what happened to my Dad's software, (3) cancel the extra order and charge the correct amount to my credit card, (4) get a new disk to finish loading new maps to the GPS. Their solution, after a lot of yelling and waiting and talking to really stupid people, they would send me my other 2 orders (which had been placed on hold for some unknown reason) and I could send one back and they would credit it to my account. And, I could send in my GPS so they could upload the new maps. Well, they had me on that one as I currently have a $300 paperweight instead of a GPS unit. The other stuff was just too stupid so I told them to cancel all the software orders. The customer dis-service guy actually asked me why I wanted to cancel my order. I told him I wanted email confirmation of the orders being canceled. He said ok. I told him he really needed my email address if he was going to send me confirmation. He said oh, right. I said "give me the confirmation number now and send me an email". He said he couldn't but he would send the email. I said "you are just saying that so I will shut up and go away, right?" He said "yes". He never did email me anything and 2 days later I received another disk in the mail. I emailed discover card to take the cost of the first disk they sent off my credit card by virtue of the fact that they said they had canceled the order and had given me a cancellation number. I then sent both the disks back - on my dime. My Dad decided it was all too much insanity and he didn't really want to upgrade his maps after all. Hopefully I will get my GPS back with new maps on it. Next time I am buying a Garmin. Magellan They sent yet another data disk to my house, which is being returned today as soon as I can get to the post office. And, I still do not have my GPS unit back. When will this nightmare end. I did finally get my GPS back after multiple phone calls , but the maps were not updated. Guess I should be grateful it works and it is the correct GPS unit. Magellan is still trying to get me to pay for the software I returned. This company is a joke.
