Re: Magellan eXplorist 600 North America

New to the forum. I also ride a motorcycle and have recently received an Explorist 500. Looking into purchacing some mapping software. Could you tell me what the difference is between Mapsends Topo and Directroute is? Do they both give you detailed street info for turn to turn travel? Just wanted to justify spending the extra for the Directroute software..

Thx

Re: Magellan eXplorist 600 North America

I believe the Topo is for topographic maps only, and won't give you much routing other then the basemap. Actually I am not even sure it really offers any routing capabilities other then along fire roads and whatnot.

The directroute I believe is their answer to the garmin CityNavigator (which I am way more familiar with) and this is their turn-by-turn directions suite. Because of this, is why the street mapping software is typically about double that of the Topo stuff.

Directroute is the way your going to want to go as far as street routing. I have the topo maps and it does not provide turn by turn directions, even though all the streets are on the map for some reason, it just provides a straight line on my meridian when I have it try to navigate to a waypoint. However with directroute it will give exact turn by turn directions. Hope that helps.

Not a problem, glad to help. I just didn't want you to go and get the wrong map for what you wanted to do, as that would've been an expensive mistake. I had found out the difference when i bought the topo maps I thought it would do the street routing since all the streets are there on the map. Also I wish you luck that things go as smoothly as they did for me uploading your maps. I've read on here magellan support leaves a bit to be desired (ok it sucks). But since I bought my Meridian and was out of warranty I have never called to experience their suckyness.

Also thank you max for that warm welcome, I was happy to see this thread saying something good about magellan, from what I've seen magellan isn't exactly a liked brand on this forum. I may be new to gps'ing and never owned any other units other then my Meridian color, Which I absolutely love this gps and never leave home without it... But thanks again for the warm welcome, glad i could help.... and everyone have a great day and happy gps'ing!
