Looking for help (MIO Moov 300)

I recently was in Orlando (FL) with my family visiting Disney World. Because the trip down from Canada had been laborious using only road maps, I decided to purchase a GPS from a local store. The salesperson assured me that the device was loaded with USA, Canada and Mexico and of course I didn't check to verify if it was true. I installed the device in my car and drove away only figured out several 100 km later that my GPS only had USA maps. I should have cued on to the fact that I could not put my home address as a favorite and used the nearest USA city to the border as a target...The device worked fine until I reached the Canada/USA border when it bacame a 160$US paperweight without a map for Canada. I have spent literally 12 or more hours of my vacation dying days trying to figure out how to acquire such map. MIO tech service is not answering my emails and their eStore web site does not seem to have a map for me. Would anyone around here have any idea about what I should do next? Should I just chalk this as a sour learning experience and trash the darn thing or should I pursue my search for a map or shell out more $ for a device from another more reputable corporation?

Well, well, well. Called them up and it turns out that there are no Canada map available for this model, so I got screwed by the salesman down in Florida. but there might be a silver lining. If I ship an Ontario company (Synnex) my device they will send me a different model (Moov 300c) that will have USA and Canada maps.
I'll be shipping it out tomorrow and keep my fingers crossed to see if they come thru with that promise. All in all, not a very satisfying experience.

Will you still agree with your screen name if your "situation" gets resolved?

Blame the dealer for your inadequate purchase. Not MIO. Next time, research the model numbers/features before purchasing. Maybe...juuuust maybe...that "C" at the end means Canada? I bet it will even say so on the box...like in the first paragraph of description from MIO...

P.S. I HIGHLY recommend a Nuvi with full detailed maps of Canada and the US next time. Seriously... You can easily get one for $160US.

Re: Looking for help (MIO Moov 300)

hey sviking: while I agree I might have been a little fast jumping the gun and accusing MIO of my being screwed over by a most probably illegal alien from down in the bowels of America, namely Florida, I still would like to point out that us here in Canada tend to be a very trusting bunch, bordering on gullible, when it comes to financial transactions. I guess we haven't learned our lesson from all the centuries being your northern neighbors. I can only blame myself for being taken for a ride by the guy who swore with his right hand on his heart that the device contained both the maps I needed. Maybe, ....juuuussst maybe, next time I won't purchase an electronic device such as a GPS, 10 minutes before hitting the road for a trek from Florida to Canada. Unless Synnex does not live up to it's promise, I should be getting a replacement unit with a "c" beside de model name, as in CANADA Hey!

Re: Looking for help (MIO Moov 300)

Well, I hope the new one works out. No offense, but it still doesn't sound like a good unit for both Canada and the US. It says the 300c only contains a map of major US roads. That sounds like a basemap to me and those are not very detailed at all. The POI coverage may be equally as sparse. It does have detailed maps for Canada, though. If you plan to do much travel in the US in the future, I'd still recommend getting an inexpensive Nuvi with full detail maps of Canada and the US. I used a Garmin from New England up to and all over the Halifax, NS area. It did just fine, so I personally have no complaints with the Canadian maps...in that area...
