Re: newbie

Hi, amanda! I'm not a forum admin, but I'm sure that Andy or Max will be along soon to give you a big welcome!

Why don't you post your "wish list" of features you're looking for, what you want to do with your GPS, etc. in the Garmin forum? I'm sure that many of us will be happy to give you our opinions!

Re: newbie

Hi amanda! Welcome!

I've been using Garmin's for over a decade now. One reason I stick with them is their tech support. I've dealt with them numerous times over the years and they always took care of any issues I ran into.

Re: newbie

Nope! That's not true - or at least not any more than for any other rechargeable battery device. What causes the failures (and this is clearly documented in the manuals) is if you leave your device on a hot dashboard. The high temperatures will bake and destroy the battery - but this is true for any brand of GPS unit, not just Garmins. Also, batteries will wear out over time with use (they can't be charged over and over again forever). Personally, I recommend paying the extra cost for a GPS unit that has user replaceable batteries. That way you can replace them yourself easily, instead of trying to pry your device apart or sending it in to the factory.

Re: newbie

The battery in my Nuvi 660 still works as good as when it was new. I've had it since end of 2006.
