Newbie here

Just got a Mio digiwalker C230 as a gift. I have messed around with it in familiar territory, just to build confidence in it and my ability to read and follow the"users" guide.

Over all I like the unit; however, I found that the map is somewhat outdated which often times puts my route one step short. I am a Realtor and often I must go to homes in area I am not familiar with, as a result I want this device to get me right to the door. I had a showing yesterday and the device ended the route where I should have made one more turn and gone another 600 yards.

So, I am wondering if there is a way to either; update the maps or recalibrate the current map? It is consistantlt 400 - 600 feet off. This might just be the normal tolerance with a GPS, I don't know.

Thanks

Re: Newbie here

No, that is not normal tolerance. (normal is 10 to 30 feet)

Several GPS units, unfortunately, exhibit similar behavior. And there is no definitive list or anything. Mostly you have to buy a unit, try it, and be able to return it if it does not perform adequately. This is because even the best manufacturers produce lemons sometimes.

With the Mio, I can only wish you luck. I have not heard of people having good luck getting updated maps. But, not having a Mio, mine is not an expert's opinion.

Welcome to the site.

Re: Newbie here

Is it a new unit? What software is loaded?
There are plenty of places to get software updates. MIO itself should have updates and there are also numerous warez sites if you are that way inclined. I just gave my brother a MIO168 with 2006 maps that I would guess was accurate to better then 30ft.
