Truckdriver from Kentucky

Hey guys,
As the title said I'm a trucker from Kentucky. I've have little experiance with GPS other than the one on my Blackberry but I've been researching. I've noticed more and more trucks with GPS setting up on the dash and I want one.. Gotta keep up with the Jones and all that .
Anyway I will probably surf the site way more than I post but I figured it was only fair to let you know I'm here..

Hope yall are having a good day. Brandon.

Hi Brandon! Welcome to the site!

For a trucker, you probably want one of the larger screen models like Garmin's Nuvi 5000. I have a 660, which is a wide screen (not near as big as the 5000) and enjoy the larger size print and map compared to the smaller Nuvis.

Re: Truckdriver from Kentucky

Thanks for the welcome...

As for what I'm looking at...

Nuvi 200
Nuvi 350
Magellan 3250

Reasoning: I drive a Peterbilt with limited window space, I have two tollroad transponders mounted already, space is at a premium.

Tomtom is out of the running because of the lack of vehicle/route settings. Garmin and Magellan have a truck setting and a 'most use of freeway' setting, either of which will help me in my application.

Magellan has a poor rep for customer service but the 3250 seems to be packed with features at a sub $200 price.. Nuvi 350 is a bit long in the tooth now but seems to have similar features.. Honestly the 200's just in the running cause its so cheap... If I understand correctly Garmin updates maps yearly and allows a free upgrade to get a new unit current if performed within 30 days of purchase. If maggelan has the same deal I'll probably risk poor customer service and go that route.

Still trying to figure out if this years maps have came out..might be benificial to put off purchase for a bit if not.

Anyway I've rambled enough.
