| Interested in developing for GPS
Hi there, Been interested in GPS for a while and think it has a lot of potential. I have started developing a website (still in beta) for various GPS tools and I have a question on default GPS formats. Are there any universally recognized GPS formats tried doing a Google search on 'default gps address format' and nothing of much use came back. I am working on a website GPS Search engine and distance calculator and so far all it has is a GPS distance calculator but I do not know what format to use. Ideally it should support multiple formats but what I really need is a understanding of the different formats so I can Interperate them correctly. What is the standard GPS address format (if any). Regards Kirk GPS Search engine and distance calculator |

You are aware of GoogleEarth, yes? It has a very nice ruler function. Draw a line between any two points anywhere on the globe and it shows the linear surface distance between them. Just not sure if you want to reinvent the wheel against resources like Google can bring to bear... good luck! |

Your right i'm never going to compete with Google I suppose my main idea is a GPS search engine so you can enter your current GPS address and it will give you a list of GPS POI locations close by. I have added another couple of tools since my last post one is a GPS search engine which is the main idea behind the site and I have also added a converter to convert addresses or places to latitude and longitude which is nothing new and actually uses Yahoo geocoding feature to do this. I would like to add other tools as well and think it would be a good idea to develop a mobile version especially with a lot of new phones (all the new phones in the US) coming packaged with GPS. Hope you have a good weekend which starts for me in a few hours after work. |
