Newbie question!

I've had my Garmin Street Pilot III Deluxe for a year now. Bought it rebuilt form ebay. I'm really happy with it but I'm afraid I messed up somewhere. Suddenly the unit doesn't display much detail. I went to map page and chose "most" detail but still to no avail. The cursor that shows my position also has a green circle around it. A friend told me what it meant once but I cannot remember. Thanks in advance.

Re: Newbie question!

Did the unit come with Data cards? It sounds to me like either your data cards or maps are lost.

The cursor with your green circle is indicating that your satellite position 'lock' has you roughly in the area of the circle. Does that make sense?

Sorry for the delay...didn't see this one..

Thanks, I'll try reloading my maps. (Fritzc)

Does it do this only when no maps are loaded?
The unit shows major highways but not city streets which previously it did.
Also, previously I did not have that green circle. Somehow I changed the settings. I will play around with it some.
Thanks again. (Fritzc)

Re: Newbie question!

Yeah if you have highways and such, it definitely sounds like your maps are gone. Those units took an expansion memory card IIRC, that the maps went onto...if that card is loose or even just vibrates in it's slot sometimes, it can cause issues in reading the maps.

I have the same problem in my Streetpilot 2610 when it can't read maps - the CF card needs to be reseated and then it works ok....for awhile.

Let us know how it works out for you, and good luck

Re: Newbie question!

Oh the green circle typically only shows up when you're all the way zoomed into a map. I am guessing in searching for the street level mapping you zoomed in tight, and thats when it shows up?
