| Shopping for a GPS Hi everyone! I have one of those Microsoft USB GPS that you attach to your laptop The one feature that I am looking for is the preventive/real time traffic function that supposedly will give me alternate routes to get to my destination (I live in Denver where there is traffic coverage). So my first question to you (savvy GPS users) is if there is in fact out there a GPS device that accomplishes this goal? If so, which brand model would you recommend? I thank you in advance for your recommendations! |

The Nuvi 660 would do this. It comes with an FM traffic receiver. I have used it for a couple years now and it routes around traffic for the most part. It doesn't work perfect, plus many times it says heavy traffic when there isn't any. I think it more due to whoever is updating the traffic data it is receiving. Check out some of the other Nuvi's as well. Some use MSN, giving you traffic and other features (gas prices, movie listings, etc). When you're looking at them, some come with the traffic antenna and some don't saying it is an option if you buy the antenna separately. to the site btw!

Andy, Thank you for your reply! I will definitely look into the Nuvi 660, I am not expecting perfection, but would you say that most (say 50%+1) of the traffic info that you have seen on this device is accurate? Efra |

The traffic info accuracy depends on the company feeding the data to the broadcast. I used it in the Bay Area, Ca. It is ok with accidents and road construction, but general slowdowns it wasn't too accurate. Some of the time it seemed like they forgot to clear areas where there use to be traffic and it had let up. I used it for a year and haven't renewed. The area I drove has the same slow downs every day. It's pretty easy to determine if a slow down is accident caused when you drive the same highway daily.
