checking in from Toronto

Hi there, Garmin Legend CX owner here. I use my little mapping buddy for driving, hiking and kayaking. I'm a 'gadget girl' and this is one of my favs.
I do photography from a kayak so it's great to be able to pinpoint exactly where I took the photo using RoboGeo.
Cheers, Sandi

Welcome, Sandi!

Gee, I didn't know you could kayak in Zion and Bryce. I'll have to pay better attention next time I'm there!

I'm rather new to GPS use, myself, and geo-tagging photos is something I want to do, so thanks for mentioning RoboGeo - I'll look into that.

You just have to paddle harder, and watch out for the hoodoos!!! LOL

With Robogeo, don't let the program geotag your pics as it actually compresses them and I don't like my photos degraded. I just have it spit out a geotag report, showing the coordinates for the pics. Robogeo likes original tracks out of the GPS, it doesn't seem to like a track that has been downloaded and stored, for some reason. A few quirks with the programme, but generally good for what's needed.

Welcome to the site Sandi

Your gps usage is pretty interesting, I've heard of it for boating and tracking photo locations but not mixing both...thats cool. Nice gallery and collection of shots you have as well. Glad to have you aboard

Sandi, I don't have my GPS yet (due Friday) but I've been looking at RoboGeo. I saw that if you have the geo information put on the bottom of the picture that it rewrites the picture and defaults to 98%.

But I thought having it automatically add the geo information to the EXIF header did not change the picture itself, so no degradation.

Is this what you meant? I'm not yet familiar enough with it to be sure if that was what you actually said.

Thanks

Re: checking in from Toronto

Thanks for the welcome, Max. I have all sorts of gadgets, Palms, Ipods galore, a computer on each floor of the house and at the cottage (as a digital photographer so a computer is a MUST), portable storage on-the-go devices, a bunch of AC converters for my Explorer truck. I even have two powerpacks in the truck in case someone needs a boost (not off my truck, thankyouverymuch!) or if I want to do some time-lapse sunset photography at a moment's notice. Various gadgets related to my photography. I think my GPS and my iPod are my favs (AFTER the computers, of course!)

Dav, you're gonna have so much fun when you get your GPSr. With Robogeo, I did it both ways, imprinted and inserted into the header, and after saving it, I found a substantial reduction in pic size, even tho they said compression was only 98% of the original. I don't allow anything to touch my originals!
