| Pocket PC Techs GPS Screen Protectors
I was given the opportunity to test a new product from Pocket PC Tech. It' s an anti-glare screen protector for the Garmin Nuvi 660 I have. I received the screen protector 2 pak for free. I use the Nuvi 660 5 days a week in my work truck. 1/3 of the time I use it just for the traffic subscription and not directions (work in the Bay Area, CA). I was a little hesitant to put something over the touch screen fearing it would affect how easy the Nuvi's screen is to use. This product is their anti-glare protector, which I was looking forward to trying. I have the Nuvi mounted on my dash, below the radio (not on top) and at certain angles, the sun really causes a lot of trouble with glare. The kit looks like this: ![]() The instructions were straight forward. You clean the screen with Klear Screen and use the brush around the edges to dislodge any dirt particules, apply the protector. You're done. This is the first time I've used Klear Screen and it worked exceptionally well. Finger prints wiped off with no effort. They included 2 single step applications since they included 2 of the screen protectors. You wipe the screen and then use the blue buffing cloth to dry it. I'm going to buy some of this to clean my LCDs and other screens. They suggest dry fitting to check the size and alignment. They design them to be just a bit smaller than the screen size. This made it really easy to apply and align. You peal the backing slightly and put it on, just like a decal. There isn't any glue, on the back, just a static sticker from what I could tell. I had to lift it once to clear a bubble. When I was finished I notice a hair under one edge. It turned out to be a hair from the small brush that is used to clean the edges of the screen. Double check before you apply for any dust particles. Those white toothpick looking things in the second picture are used when you need to remove the protector. I was able to use that to remove the hair. It took some effort to get the toothpick like device under the edge. The screen protector sticks really well. I didn't see it mentioned in the directions, but I re-calibrated the touch screen once finished. Installed looks like: ![]() I've used the product now for a week. I would definitely recommend it for any touch screen you want to protect. It's nearly invisible when in use. The only time I notice it on there is when the Nuvi isn't turned on. It hasn't come loose in direct sun or shown any signs of bubbling or scratching. The last picture is what it looked like after a weeks worth of daily use, with no cleaning. The protector doesn't have *any* affect on the touch screen! There is no difference at all. It's just as precise as it is without it. If anything it seemed easier to use the full screen keyboard when entering addresses. There is still some glare, but not as much. I'd estimate it cuts glare by 70-80%. So in short, it protects the screen, it's easy to install, easy to remove, leaves no marks or residue on the device if removed; it doesn't affect the touch screen, and is fairly low cost considering what the Nuvi 660 costs. I can't come up with any negatives about it. Last edited by Andy; 09-03-2007 at 1:21 PM. |

I just wanted to update this review. I've been using this on the Nuvi since I posted here about it. There are still no corners or edges coming up. It hasn't discolored or shown any signs of wear either. Last edited by Andy; 01-05-2008 at 10:52 AM. |

Very useful review. Thanks Andy. I've always wondered how well those protectors work, and if they actually do protect. Good to hear some first hand experience. |

Just curious. Does this change the clarity of the display at all? And I assume from what you wrote, that when and if you need to, you can remove the protector and apply another.

No difference in the clarity. With the backlight on, I can't even see it on the screen. It's just stuck there by static making it easy to lift off, clean, and re-apply if needed.
