gps with the google maps

are there gps's out there i can hack or there is a pre-installed capability to have google maps superimposed into a garmin/tomtom/etc. and used for walking to a destination? barring ipad/iphone

ps: are there gps'es out there that have sirius sat radio installed?

Against a cell/smart phone device? You're going to need one to maintain connection to Google. Those maps aren't going to fit internally on a standalone device. Haven't heard of a dedicated, portable GPS unit having built in satellite radio.

Best is pretty subjective. What features do you want? Does it need to have a touchscreen? Tracklogs, water proof, etc? Did you want to be able to customize the display fields?

Any of Garmin's hiking models with the high-sensitivity receiver would work well, but it depends on the features you want.

Perhaps, however the OP said NY and if that includes NYC, then they don't really work that well. My 60CSx did just "okay" and the track at the end of the day looked like a drunken sailor wandering all over the place in Manhattan. My Nuvi? Fuggetaboutit... In NYC, a cell enabled GPS type device would be MUCH better as coverage is everywhere.

Yeah that's true. Cell enabled GPS's are a good option if there is limited sky view.
