| A GPS for a sales rep ! Any suggestion anyone ?
Hi, first of all. thanks for having such a web site for people like me who dont know where to go to get info on what we need. I tried to find in my area someone who might know what the heck i would need to buy. After 2 weeks, no one could find me a proper tool. So here it is. I am a salesman, i need a tool, that will keep track of the km i do for work , and the one i do for personnal purpose. I thought of a GPS, and i know, seen an ad on tv, that it exist. Our goverment trough our income tax, need to know the precise amount of KM we do in a year for personnal use when you vehicule is a company vehicule. So if your truck is worth 50K, they will charge your income tax, a certain amount of money. And you need to prove it. We, salesrep, used to keep a logbook, had written, that you could easely forget. Anybody knows what i need ? From what i have heard, that gps is sending a report to your e-mail, and this way you have a record of it. Thanks for helping me if you can. |

The short answer is you need something with a track log. The tracklog contains a bread crumb like trail of dots of where you've been. Including the distance, times, dates. I don't know if there is a specific device that does what you want, but you could come up with something that used a track log. You'd have to turn on or off the track log depending on if you want it storing he work data or personal data. Maybe renaming/saving the track. I haven't seen the one that sends you an email but it's definitely feasible. |

The simple solution is two relatively cheap GPSs. One you only turn on when you are on business. The other you only turn on when on personal travel. The hitch that I see in using a GPS for this function is how often you download (make written record) of the travel miles. You have to keep some type of written record on a periodic basis (week, month, or?) to play it safe in case one of the units has a malfunction or gets inadvertently reset. George |

Best device would be a carchip logger (if your vehicle supports the interface ODBII) not a GPS as you are more interested in mileage and date/time than positions although you could integrate a GPS into a vehicle logger. Do a search for "carchip 8226" or carchip 8246" for the fleet pro version with GPS. |
