Motorcycle GPS Mount

I've used this method on every Honda sport/sport-touring bike I've owned, and it will probably work with many other motorcycles as well.

I use a RAM mount, with the RAM11M base. I mount it using the right-hand clip-on pinch bolt. The flange on the RAM11M is pretty thick, so I machined it down so that the stock bolt would continue to work without losing much grip on the threads.

I have the Garmin 2610, so this is the kit I use: R-A-M Mount System [With the Short Arm (1 3/4")]

Here's how I mount it. You can see the notch where I machined down the area where the bolt goes through.

Here's the orientation of the GPS while in use:

Re: Motorcycle GPS Mount

I miss my 27 series already...I really liked the information features in addition to the screen data.

Re: Motorcycle GPS Mount

I too have a Honda sport touring bike and also use the Ram mounting system with my Legend. Mine is mounting in the same way. Have not mounted the Zumo yet, but look forward to it.

Re: Motorcycle GPS Mount

Hey Keith, Ram 11M or 9M? what's your fave these days?

Check this awesome website for imagery:

Moto-Fotos - Hyperpro stock photo of 2004 ZX-10r Cockpit
Moto-Fotos - Stock photo of 2004 ZX-10r Cockpit

Any ideas?

I have about 4-5 ram shorts and mid arms, a ram mount, all sortsa crap, even an HB-2 on the bike presently (but it's too weird for a GPS). I think I am going to end up with an 11 or 9 and a longish RAM arm.

I realize we've discussed this elsewhere what, 15 times

Re: Motorcycle GPS Mount

I am not sure where is the best spot, but there is a very small 'ear' on the front of the triple clamp that the MC reservoir goes into, it's just a 6x20 screw (it looks like, might be 5mm) that goes through 3/16" of an Al tab on the front.

There is also the alternative of attaching to the front of the triple..I haven't checked the area, but there looks to be a spot where a band goes for the front brakelines.

This link should be a fiche for a 2004 zx10 r front master cylinder:

Ron Ayers Motorsports - Discount Motorcycle Parts

Not quite sure where 92171 goes, could be on lower TC (dang) but if not - that is mine

What are your thoughts on tapping the triple? just drill/tap it for 1/4-20 and loctite a ball in there?

...and a LONG ram arm, thinking 5" here.

Re: Motorcycle GPS Mount

I went with this on the ST:

ConqSoft.com » Blog Archive » ST1300 Left Clip-On RAM Mount

Not sure if that would work on yours or not.

Re: Motorcycle GPS Mount

Yeah I have that (shoehorned) it sorta works for the 60csx but definetely not for the 2720...

I gotta get in the dash once the 2720 gets here and see whats what in there. Just cant decide if I should order a plethora of ram junk and just work with whatever (it's never bad to have RAM stuff around ) or if I should wait and buy exactly what I need.

I think the 9m might be the trick....

Yeah, I have a bag-o-RAM parts that I pull from for testing ... I need to replenish it though.

Re: Motorcycle GPS Mount

Of course, you have an ST now You can have 30# of RAM mount on it before you even notice

last year I made the mistake of searching ebay for people selling used bulk lots of RAM crap...I won a couple, but I will say that cup holder works really well, I am impressed.

Re: Motorcycle GPS Mount

Just refilled my bag-o-crap RAM stocks to the tune of about a buck.

Like all things Max - I also impromptu decided to part with my ZX10 in favor of some debt elimination, so the crap I just bought will now look nice in my basement.

Yeah, I look at it as one step closer. The ZX10 deal came up as a result of a potentially smackin deal on a '14, which I just decided was more $ then I was comfy with right now, and it still would have been a compromise.

I really like the dash on the '14 though...sounds like the Connie will have an even geekier dash

RAM stuff should be here tuesday, 2720 on Wednesday...so I'm going to have to dig out the other RAM stuff now and build an erector set in my truck

I also have a touratech/ram mount for the KLR that I will be employing with the 60csx.

Re: Motorcycle GPS Mount

Some of my FJR buds had some issues with the Ram setups breaking at certain points. Some though swear by them. I haven't tried them but personally don't like the looks of the Ram. Only reason for not using them. I plan on mounting up my 2720 when it gets here with the TechMount stem system. It replaces the steering stem nut and comes in different lengths.
