| I must be slow. Just looking for a simple answer
Hello, I really dont understand why this is so hard for me to complete. I have a garmin extrex legend. And a blackberry curve with a GPS. All I want to do is ride my bicycle around SanFrancisco and track where I have been so I can ride other areas. And when I am done look at all the routes on one single map. I have got the extrex legend to track me and I have been able to save the track as a gpx file. Can someone tell me the next step to add these tracks to google maps so I can view it there and save into google maps or google earth? I have tried bikeroutetoaster.com and mapmyride.com However it doesn't seem like my gps reading follow the treets i have ridden. Should i be doing something else? Also I have not figured out how to add more routes to the same map. thanks |

Maybe saving the track in a .gdb file will help? I use my etrex HCx on a windows machine, but I am running Garmins mapsource to upload/download everything. I don't own a blackberry curve, so can't help you there. PM me........ ![]() |

| Re: I must be slow. Just looking for a simple answer earlthepearl, stormlight is already saving the track in GDB. What he needs help with is the next step - porting it over so it can be viewed in Google Earth. stormlight, I think you need to save your track as a GPX file (File > Save As, select "GPS eXchange Format" from the drop down). Then you'll need to convert from GPX to KML (Google Earth's format). You can't do that from MapSource, but GPS Babel should be the tool you need for that. I'm sure that there are others. |

Sorry, I don't use Google Earth all that much. I just realized that the default file format for Google Earth is actually KMZ (which is just KML Zipped, to be a smaller file size).

stormlight, that still doesn't cancel out the rest of my post though. Use GPS Babel or a similar conversion program to convert GPX to KMZ or KML. Then you'll be able to load the converted file into Google Earth. | |
