tt720 or nuvi 750

I'm trying to decide between the TomTom 720 at BBuy for 180 bucks or the Nuvi 750 at costco for 200. The 720 has a few features the nuvi doesn't have so I'm leaning that way, but the nuvi seems to have a little better reviews. On the other hand I prefer costco to best buy for making these kinds of purchases so I'm torn.

Any thoughts appreciated

Re: tt720 or nuvi 750

This gets real subjective. Like you say, factors that have nothing to do with the GPS come into play.

Return policy at Costco can't be beat. So I would say buy the 750 there. If it doesn't give you the warm and fuzzies, return it and get the tt720 from Best Buy.

I have the nüvi 750, so I am probably biased...

Re: tt720 or nuvi 750

Well I got the 720 last night and tried it today. Considering I've never used one before it was pretty simple to navigate. I can see at least here in Los Angeles that it's not always or ever maybe going to get you the quickest way to somewhere. It appears to be in love with freeways, which those who live here may know is not always the fastest way around. Other than that the bluetooth connected right up to my old Treo 650 no problem. But the TT constantly announced it was connected to it and woke it up all day draining the phones battery. Anyone know of a way to stop this?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Re: tt720 or nuvi 750

I don't know anything about bluetooth, so I'll skip that part.

But in the 750 you can tell it the "average speed" to use for different classes of roads when calculating "fastest route".

It isn't always true, of course, but if you set the freeway average speed to, say, 20 MPH, then it will favor surface streets.

I don't know if the 720 has the same function available.

How do you do that?

Re: tt720 or nuvi 750

3Dogs, I don't have my nüvi here at work with me. And I'm very much afraid that it might be a setting on my car built-in GPS instead of the Garmin.

I'll verify tonight. Apologies if it ends up I misled anyone!

Yeah, on my previous built-in nav, you could set the speeds for various types of roads. I don't see that anywhere on my nuvi 760.

Re: tt720 or nuvi 750

And of course I haven't remembered to check yet (fun week-end!).

I just sent myself an email reminder...

Re: tt720 or nuvi 750

Well it's been a week or so and over all I'm pretty happy. Avoiding freeways does the job I haven't found a road speed selection yet. My bluetooth problem may very well be my phone. I'm on the lookout for a used ebay phone that's on the compatible list.

Re: tt720 or nuvi 750

I did finally manage to remember to check.

I can set the speed on my built-in car unit. Cannot do it on the nüvi.

Sorry for getting everyone's hopes up.
