i gotta admit, for the price the Nextar M3-04 is a pretty handy little gps, but the data it comes with is pretty outdated and if anyone else has heard about Nextar, they're totally awesome with customer service (major sarcasm). there are absolutely no map packs available from what i can tell and only 2 firmware updates for 2 different models.

i also have a Garmin, love it to death. i'm planning on getting the map pack for the '09 year, but is there any way the pack or the chips are compatible with other models like, say, my damn Nextar?

i don't wanna get rid of it, so if there's any map pack out there that's compatible with almost any gps i'm all ears.

I don't know what to tell you, I can't find anyone else that has found newer maps for it. Most say their map is 2005, is yours?

Usually maps are not compatible between manufacturers. Although there are some 3rd party map makers on the 'Net.

This site: http://makeyourownmaps.com/ is actually a book, but it discusses some of the map making software, so you might be able to use it as a starting point even without getting the book.

i think it's the same year map pack. i think i remember looking into the gps info and i believe it was 2005. i'll check out the site and look for some other map packs. thank you much! great to be a part of the forum!

I have another Nextar gps (mn2707) with just the canada map which is really outdated. You are right about lack of support because after I flashed the unit with their latest firmware it rendered it stuck in the famous "system scanning" mode I can't find the original firmware anywhere and their best deal is to exchange it for a new one for the old unit and a chunk of change. Not likely going to happen when the maps for the new ones are all outdated and no support or updates.
Too bad someone doesnt start a class action lawsuit.
