| For the knowledgeable...
Here's one for you; I need to purchase a GPS that will be used for : 1- driving around in a car 2- on a bicycle 3- in a kayak Is there a GPS out there that could work and be used reasonnably well in each of the situation stated above. Do your suggested GPS's have accessories to hold them in place in a car and on the bicycle (I can manage finding a spot for it on the kayak)?? Thanks |

Hi Shadow! Welcome to the site! ![]() Take a look at Garmin's outdoor line (hiking models). Most have automobile features once you load City Navigator software on them. I have a 76CSx which is waterproof and floats. Their new Oregon model might be just want you want. Not sure if it floats though. There are RAM mounts that would hold the device on a bicycle or in a car, and probably on a kayak. I use a Edge model on my mountain bike and it works great. Even gives cadence and my heart rate info. |

Thanks for your help, Someone was also suggesting the 60csx, and frankly other than the fact that the 76 floats and the 6o doesn't I can't see a big difference. What is also strange is that here in Canada the 76 is 60.00$ cheaper. Go figure. Also, how do you find the display size of the 76 in your car? Wich mount did you get for it? Thanks again |

In the car I use a RAM suction cup and the same holder I use on my dirtbike and streetbike. RAM Mounting Systems, Inc. The screen size is ok in the car. Not as easy as a touch screen when it comes to entering an address. The 4 way hat makes it about twice as long to enter an address. It auto-zooms the map as you drive and can beep when it needs to alert you of a turn. I have heard the 60 will also float if you use lithium batteries in it but I can't confirm. The 60 and 76 are basically the same inside. The 60 has the different shape body with a belt clip. I think they may come with a different size memory card too. You'll probably want to put in a large one anyway so that might not be an issue. You will need to buy City Navigator to get turn-by-turn directions from it. It will gives you turn-by-turn on major highways but not the smaller streets, even though the basemap will display the smaller streets. You might take that into consideration when price comparing models. |
