Newbie here with Questions... Please Help !!

Greetings all, my name is Kenn and i am from Rugged South Eastern Ohio. I am VERY New to the GPS world and i am in the Market for a Cheap GPS that i can mount to my Handlebars and has the Leaving Breadcrumb Option and also Backtracking ? Maybe mark where i Parked and Unloaded at and how i can Map the trails i ride and also log the Points of Intrest along the way... am i DREAMING or is there such a device ? I mainly want to not get lost in the Hills, Mountyains and Trails but the other features would be awsome. What Options am i looking for? What Hand Held GPS Unit would suit my needs best ? I have read some about them but im not even sure what a way point means... can anyone help ? Thanks, Kenn Lost in Ohio...

Hi Ken!

I use a Garmin 76CSx on my dirtbike. I have used a 76S also. The newer 76CSx has a much better chipset. It rarely has trouble with reception even in dense forest. It does everything you mentioned and a few more like built in compass and altimeter. It has a 10,000 point tracklog that is adjustable. You can pick a preset time or distance between points. It also has a setting to save the tracklog to a file on the memory card. With this setting you are only limited by the freespace on the card instead of the 10,000 point limit. I usually have mine set to .02 mile which gives detailed tracklogs. It also logs the elevations. It can graph the ascent/descent, etc. It's fully waterproof, so also dust proof. The buttons are easy to use with gloves on as well.

The one feature that it doesn't do exactly is map the trails you ride. It can create a tracklog, but not a map. You could print out a map with your tracklogs showing the trails but there is no way to convert those tracks into "roads" on the device. It does allow backtracking.
