Newbie question- can you manually change parts of a route?

I'm looking to buy my first GPS for driving. Are there GPSs units that allow you to manually change parts of a route after the GPS determines the full route itself?

I'm wondering about this for example in cases where there might be certain roads I'd prefer not to drive on and where I know there are other alternatives that can still get me to the next point in the route predetermined by the GPS.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

tks.

Re: Newbie question- can you manually change parts of a route?

Yes, you can, but not as easily as it should be.

Instead of saying "do not use this road" by touching it (for instance), what you have to do is keep adding intermediate waypoints until it follows the desired route.

Oh, welcome to the site, too!

(caveat: this answer is specific to my Garmin nüvi 750 - other brands may offer other solutions)
