GPS + Computer data acquisition

Hello all. I am new here and not sure how to do exactly what I want to do. I am basically looking for a way to take information from my Microsoft gps-500. and transfer it into a array of data in a form something like x coordinate, y coordinate. Another way to do this, would be to use my streets and trips program with a route tracking and take the file from this and manually save the track as an x and y coordinate. Are either of these methods possible or practical?
