| I recently purchased a in dash dvd-tv-raido-gps unit for my car.It came with a sd card with a demo version gps from a company other then tomtom. When i asked the seller how i could get tomtom software onto the sd card i got this response....... The trial map is to show that the GPS System is working perfectly and we send you a free 2 GB SD card with the trial map. If you want to upgrade from the trial map, you need to acquire a full version from any GPS software - Route 66 and TomTom are two types of maps that work very well and come at good prices. Usually GPS systems come with trial maps and not the full version. Could anyone post a link to where i can purchase what i need? The pic is of the navi slot |

As I have no Idea what type of platform you have, try this. Garmin: Garmin Mobile 20 Software Update Collection
This the link to Mobile XT on the Garmin web site. If it installs to your unit then you could probably buy the Garmin mobile XT with the 2009 maps, if it fails to install then I will assume you need a PND load which I don't think Garmin sell as a second source install. |

If the seller said they recommeded that you use Tom Tom software, then that's what I would do. Garmin software is "Highly Proprietary" and is compatible, only with specific registered units. Messing with it could wipe out the formating of your on board unit SD card. Tom Tom is a European company. Find out who built your unit and contact them about buying the full sofstware update and how to install. ........... Hank G.

I'm not sure I understand you correctly If you have downloaded an entire new map update on line, it would be in a exe. file, generally on your desktop. If you hookup your GPS to your PC via USB cable and turn the GPS on, you can then execute the exe. file you downloaded and it will bring up a software install wizard and you just follow the directions. I just did this myself on one of my units, last night.
Now if your unit came with software that you have loaded to your computer then again, you can hook up your GPS to your PC with the USB cable and turn it ( the GPS ) on. Make sure, in both / cases that your SD card is installed in the GPS. Now open the software program on your PC. You should find a line on the PC program for your GPS containing various options. Among these will be something like an icon that might resemble the SD card. There will be TWO options. ONE for bringing data from the GPS SD card to the PC, and ONE taking it too the GPS, SD card. They generally have and arrow showing the direction. Select or build the map / maps you wish to load from the PC, to the GPS unit. Double click the icon to transfer data TOO the GPS and as soon as a action is complete, your done. Hope I made this understandable and that it helps, good luck.. Hank G.

What I believe you have to do is find out who built the unit for the car, then contact them to see if updated software is available. If so, order it ( likely a CD or DVD ), and just insert it into your DVD player. When the disk comes up and starts to play, I'de almost bet you that it will open and installation Wizard dialog, that will talk you through the entire install. It can be no other way unless they think want you to bring it back, for a dealer install or something. BUT THAT! I doubt. Am going to go on line after I post this and see what I can find out for myself. If I find anything useful, will get back to you. Again, I'm sorry for the wasted time for both of us. ...............
