Transferring from device to PC

I just got a like-new 60CSx and have a question or two. I have MapSource on my PC and I have topos of WA, ID, and MT but no full USA topo and no City Navigator. The unit (picked up at local pawn shop) has 5 city maps in it from CN and that's all besides the base map. I wanted to save these maps to mapsource so I wouldn't risk wiping them out when loading topos. The selection for the transfer is available but I get the message that it can't be done because I don't have City Navigator in Mapsource. Oh well, I have a 2GB card on it's way and I'll just switch cards for backcountry use. Still, in USB mode, I was able to save the .img file to a folder on my PC. Is it safe to assume I could wipe this card and restore it again from that file?

The map .img file by itself is not sufficient, at least on the nuvi. They are paired with license files which are specific for the nuvi device. Make sure you have the matching set.
