| Can you stop the Trip Computer?
I have an etrex Venture HC. The Trip Computer seems to have no way to stop or disable it. So you just have to let it run and always reset it when you want to use it? I wish GPS units had a manaul with them that actually explained the functions and features! Charlie |

Now-a-days manuals are an area where the manufacturers are cutting expenses. Most GPS manuals do have a manual. You just have to download it from the manufacturer's site. George |

Oh it came with a small nice looking manual, that does have some basic info in it. But explains little in detail. The Download is the same as the printed I rec'd |

The manuals are pretty weak. There is no way I know of to disable the trip computer. I usually just reset it before I head out.

| Re: Can you stop the Trip Computer? Or just sit down with the unit, crack a beer or three and play with the menus/buttons and see what's there. It's not like you can break it by just using it...and you'll familiarize yourself with everything and how to find it.

RAM slot? If you are talking about a SD card slot - the Etrex Ventura HC does not have one. |

I just got a Dakota 20, and have the same question: Is there a way to stop the trip computer?

Just got a Colorado 400i yesterday and as far as I know: 1.) Yes, the manual and info downloaded is pretty lame. 2.) There is no way to actually stop the trip computer from running. |

So, what's really the big deal with wanting to stop the trip computer? You still either have to remember to do something with it if you want your traveled distance anyway, whether it's starting it or resetting it. The resettable trip computer doesn't stop in my car and I've never had a problem with it.

On my Trip Computer Page, I hit Menu and selected Change Data Fields, then selected a lot of things in the 6 small fields, out of the 30, or so, choices that are not trip related. In the Two Wide Fields, one can select the two location fields. Also if one selects Time Of Day in any wide field, it will show the seconds. One can also select the Big Numbers from the menu, and put in the location fields, or accuracy, elevation, time of day, ect. Or when in a vehicle, put speed in all three fields, so a quick glance tells the speed. When selecting from the choices, one can hit the in or out buttons to move up or down the page, as well as hold down on the rocker for faster scrolling. In the meantime, the trip stuff is running in the background if you need to select it. Last resort: Go to the Main Menu Page>Setup>Page Seq>Trip Computer>Remove. That sends it to the Main Menu page, and takes it out of your regular Page series. Can be viewed from the Menu Page or brought back in series later. And choices can be changed with just a few button pushes. |

I can stop the Trip Computer on my Garmin 76CSx by going to the menu where I can "USE WITH GPS OFF". It stops the trip and retains the display data. I use this a lot to retain information about a long walk so I can view it later. |
