Help! My Garmin etrex Venture HC is a papeweight!

My Garmin etrex is now completely dead. It originally had the flickering boot up problem so I FINALLY got the Webupdater to recognize the darn thing. So it commenced to update with the word LOADER on the screen. 3 hours later this was not done so I killed the process (Mac OSX). It now is completely dead.

The sad part is that I got this for Christmas and It is now almost June and I have never even witnessed the Map screen. This issue seems to be a widespread problem with this model and Garmin knows about it. Why hasn't anything been done to fix this? Well I guess I'm venting now.

Was it purchased new at Christmas time by the person who got it for you? Sounds like a warranty call to Garmin would get it resolved.

You should be able to download the latest firmware to your mac and then upload it to your unit without using the web updater. I have done this with my 60CSX before. Go here for the firmware this may be for windows only.

I talked to Garmin today and I shipped it back to them. I just hope updating isn't a problem again when I receive the new one.

Firstly, let me say hello to all members as a new member.

With respect to the pics posted, I need to ask where the speaker is located as I'm about to do a surgery to my 205W and add a headphone jack.
