Garmin 265WT Question

I've had a c320 for a long time... and finally upgraded to a 265WT.

Seems to me that in the past I would use Mapsource, copy the map to the SD card in my reader, and then pop it in the GPS...

I was able to copy the whole 2010 map to my 2gig card, but when I pop it into my 265, nothing happens...

Is something new? I've googled like mad, and can't seem to find anything I'm doing wrong.

Any help, much appreciated...

Thanks,
Pete

Re: Garmin 265WT Question

Pete, you need to make sure that the maps are selected in your Garmin n265T's Map Settings. These screenshots were made with my Garmin zūmo 660, but they should be very similar to your Garmin nüvi 265WT.

Re: Garmin 265WT Question

Oh...wait. Are you trying to use a City Navigator NT road map that was locked to another GPS unit? Like perhaps your old Garmin StreetPilot c320? If that's the case, it won't work, and you must purchase a new copy of the City Navigator NT map. The road maps are locked to one individual GPS unit (via the serial number of that GPS unit), and when you load the map onto a flash storage card and put it in another machine, it checks to see if the serial numbers match. The topo maps (currently) aren't like that, and you can load them onto any Garmin GPS unit that you own. I'm sure that Garmin will lock those down as well, if they see the maps being abused like the City Navigator maps have been. Perhaps if you can pursuade Garmin Support that your c320 is truly dead, they'd be willing and able to reset your City Navigator NT 2010 map to your replacement? I've never heard of anyone doing that - but if it works, let us know!
