| View TOPO US 24 on computer in Mapsource?
How can I do this? It doesn't work to just try to open the file.

| Re: View TOPO US 24 on computer in Mapsource? LenBackus, it's been a while since I installed my Topo US 24K West maps, but I thought there was just an executable that you ran off the CD or DVD. I've never purchased the download product from Garmin, so I don't know how much different it would be (but it would seem to me that it'd also have to be an executable file you have to launch to initiate the install). If you purchased a preloaded map card from Garmin, that product can't be transfered to your computer. I think the downloaded product also can only be viewed on your device - which is why I stick to buying CD/DVD's. If you've already installed the 24K map, but just can't find it in MapSource, make sure that MapSource sees it. Go into Utilities > Manage Map Products (or just press Ctrl + U on the keyboard) and see if you see your loaded map listed there (see my first screenshot). If you do see your topo map listed there, then you probably just haven't selected it from the map pull down menu, aka "Select a Product" (see my second screenshot). If you've pulled down an illegal torrent file, and can't get it to work...well, I can't help you other than to recommend a full antivirus scan to make sure you haven't infected your computer.... |

THanks, I got an email from a reseller who said only the DVD product can be used on a computer.

That's correct - and the reason I only purchase DVD/CD's. They are the most versatile map product. You can install them on your computer, load them to your GPS internal memory (if it has enough room) or to any size flash media card your GPS unit will take. You also have the peace of mind knowing that if your flash memory card dies, you can just buy another and load the maps onto the new one - and if your computer dies, you still have your disc and can always install again. Downloads and preloaded memory cards don't save you that much money, and you can't get nuMaps updates for the City Navigator NT maps in those formats - just what came on your Garmin GPS or a map DVD/CD.
