Confusion between Express and Collector on Highway

I am not sure if this is a map or GPS problem. I drive on the HWY 401 in Toronto everyday. My Nuvi 1490T can't identify my car on the Express lanes. The unit keeps asking me to keep left or right on the Collector even when I am on the Express lanes ! There are spots where the two lanes are not even close to each other - and yet the unit still thinks I am on the Collector lane. Is this a map, unit, or GPS error. This is of concern since sometimes you have some exits that are available only on the collector side and if you are on the express, you`ll miss them. Any ideas please.

I am a Toronto user so I think I know what you are talking about. The GPS tells you to keep right or keep left so that you don't accidentally leave the route you are on and exit the highway.

I use a 76CSx and it does know the difference between the collector and express lanes. It alerts me each time I approach a possible off ramp.

I hope this helps as I don't know what the Nuvi shows - I assume it would represent the road navigation better than my trail unit.

This afternoon, I checked to see if the lane assist will show up correctly - the lane assist came on and showed the lanes and exit signs for the collector lanes, not the correct ones for the express lanes. This confirms that the unit does not recognize the fact that I am on the Express lanes. This is driving me nuts !

What map do you have loaded in your Nuvi? I have Mapsource City Navigator 2010.

And what does the map view look like? Does your Nuvi show all the lanes of the highway and your car on one of them?

I know this won't help you but you aren't the only one who has noticed this problem:

perhaps contacting Garmin. Maybe they have a patch you can load into your Nuvi.
